The DisOrient Asian American Film Festival of Oregon is the premiere Asian American, social justice film festival of Oregon. Our films – “By us, for us and about us”– break open the one-dimensional stereotype of the “Oriental.” They believe in the power of film to inform, heal and connect people. They bring power to their voice in sharing stories and advocating for social justice.

DisOrient is a social justice film festival dedicated to deconstructing the media stereotypes of Asians and Asian Americans.

The Asian Reporter Foundation is proud to host their annual Scholarship and Awards Banquet, currently in its 20th year. Held yearly in late April, the banquet honors young scholars, respected elders, and exemplary community groups in the days leading up to Asian Pacific American Heritage Month in May.

More then $1 Million dollars in college scholarships have been awarded to deserving students from Asian-American families since the event was conceived. The Asian Reporter Foundation also recognizes the lives and accomplishments of our elders through its Most Honored Elder award. Their Exemplary Community Volunteer award is presented to groups that demonstrate exceptional service to the community.

Our Shared Heritage: Asian and Pacific Islander Day at the Capitol to Provide a Gateway to Events Around the State

Salem, Ore. – May is National Asian Pacific American Heritage Month and to honor the rich diversity and contributions made, the Oregon State Capitol will be hosting Our Shared Heritage: Asian and Pacific Islander Day at the Capitol on Saturday, April 28 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. This event honors the culture, traditions, heritage and history of Asian Pacific Americans and kicks off the festivities happening throughout the state in the month to come.

Local cultural organizations, dance troupes and musical groups will perform throughout
the event and provide cultural activities for families to participate in.

The Oregon State Capitol is located at 900 Court St NE, Salem. This event is free and
open to the public, and parking is free on the weekends.

Tower tours to the Oregon Pioneer will take place at 11 a.m., noon and 1 p.m., weather
permitting. There will be two food carts for event attendees to buy lunch from if they desire.
